Welcome new (and old) subscribers: my 'best of' Substack list
Celebrating 7 months on Substack is an excellent reason to share some of the best and most well-received texts I published here. If you've just discovered voice, you can use this as a tour guide
We’re living in a content environment that pushes us to consume the latest new and exciting things daily. While this practice may be what the capitalist advertising industry needs (as well as our habit of quieting deep emotions with cascading shallow stimuli), I’m not sure it is the best way to go about building our consciousness.
I am sure, however, that trying to always be on top of the latest trend is not the best way for any writer to pursue excellence, or accomplishment.
As a writer, I try to keep this basic rule in mind. So here are 15 of what I consider to be my best and time-resistant texts on Substack, and for anyone who wishes to get to know my voice, or my world, I think that’s a perfect place to start.
Batch #1: some autobiographical bits, and how I became an anti-Zionist
This collection of posts consists of texts describing my journey into anti-Zionism, my connection to the land and people, and my actual way out.
You can start with
One Moment of Pure Surrealism as an IDF Soldier in Gaza,1992
Describing an actual event from my past, occurring in Gaza, 30+ years ago. You can go on to the defining moment when I realized Israel was never going to get better in The Summer I Lost My Country.
If you’re interested in seeing, or remembering the Levant as I experienced it, do check out
Smells of (the Levant) Home.
And, if getting to know my personal story and perhaps my deep motivation for speaking up against injustice, I recommend reading In Speaking up Against Evil, I Remain True to my Siblings and my Childhood Self.
Finally, on September 13th 2024 I was out of Israel (for good) and in California (temporarily). That’s what I had to say that day
Man, it's good to be out

Batch #2: the genocide and Israel’s character, guilt and downfall
In July 2024 I gave my best explanation as to why I could not stay silent during the genocide, and whom I swore to never abandon, in Why I do This - Why I Talk so Much About Gaza's Genocide (free). In August I published Gaza Told us the Truth About Ourselves, detailing the grim picture of our civilization the genocide was exposing and exacerbating.
One of the biggest hits on this list -
It's not About how Evil Israelis are as people, It's About how Vile, Violent and Vindictive Zionism is as a Fantasy and Reality
Lays out the importance of focusing on ideology, rather than character (a bad ideology will destroy any character, that’s for sure, but to make the world better we should always keep it about ideas, and not people).
A highlight of Israel’s massive propaganda campaign has been the ‘mass rape‘ fabrication, which I deconstruct in The Worst Blood Libel in History, and the Reason I'm Hated Most in Israel. In a not unrelated article, I delve into the inherent shamelessness of Zionist arguments and reasoning in response to an infamous remark made on a Zionist podcast Shame is Dead. Zionism Killed it.
Another occasion where I was virtually lynched by Zionist accounts was my description of Yahya Sinwar’s final moments, and life, in Zionist Accounts are Losing it Over my Post About Sinwar's Killing.
Finally, a top-performing post from October 2024:
Israelis and Their Abetters Will be Eternally Hated

Batch #3: Iran and Israel go to war
As I’m sure this is happening the coming weeks, the following is my contribution to understanding how this war may play out:
Iran Could End Israel in a Few Hours
Another article on this topic discusses Israel’s unique approach to national security, how it stems from white supremacy, and what negative impacts it can have on Israel’s ability to wage a large-scale war: Pilot Cult: The White Supremacy Behind Israel's Ill-Fated Iran Strategy.

Batch #4: colonialism
Understanding and breaking down colonialism and the colonial psyche has been a serious part of my as a political writer. I dedicated numerous texts to this issue, and some of them have become hugely popular online.
My approach to understanding colonialism is laid out in a series of posts which I really recommend for those who have an interest in anticolonial thought. The 3 posts I’d begin with are Colonizer Homelessness, followed by
It's all in the Bible and the Fabricated Identities
And, finally,
Maybe Murder and Humiliation is the Whole Point.

Batch #4: miscellaneous
Some posts don’t neatly fall into categories. For instance my video about the pressing need to change our perspective on events covered by the media, titled ‘You are not an Onlooker. You are an Actor’.
What I believe Palestine to stand for, on a global political level, gets expressed in
Palestine Means Justice, Dignity and Freedom for our Generation. We Cannot Ever Back Down.
A complete opposite of Palestine, Musk’s diabolical Cybertruck stands for everything that is wrong with America, and I had something to say about it in The Cybertruck as a Mindless Celebration of America's Aesthetic and Emotional Handicap.
Decolonization or Death
Is dedicated to the importance of being dead serious when it comes to our core political convictions, and it brings back the fantastic Greek expression Eleftheria i thanatos.
Finally, my most precious, most loved, most me, my own daughter and the period we’re going through, feature in The Call Out (real-life poetry in short prose form), and I think it has the potential to leave you with a smile and an open heart.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed this collection of posts, and found at least one or two you actually liked, and will remain with you. It is not the newest that counts, it is the realest.

I am so pleased to have found you comrade
