Palestine Means Justice, Dignity and Freedom for our Generation. We Cannot Ever Back Down.
More than virtually any other current major struggle, Palestine invokes the dearest, most pressing and vital elements of our shared moment in time. The people know it. So does capitalist-colonialism
In almost every major city around the world demonstrations for Palestine happen routinely. In sporting events, mass concerts, and cultural gatherings, huge signs bearing the now globally recognizable Free Palestine are visible from miles away.
Everywhere you travel, in Istanbul, Barcelona, San Francisco, or Amsterdam, Palestinian flags hang from balconies and windows, and all over the global south, from Malaysia to Venezuela, from Egypt to Morocco, the people hold the Palestinian people and Palestinian cause close to their hearts: they cry for Palestine, they pray for Palestine, and sometimes they give their last piece of family jewelry to raise funds for a Palestinian charity.
In Ireland, politicians speak of Palestine with heightened emotions, and massive rallies in Yemen’s glorious Sana'a draw hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions.
The war effort that Western establishments and corporations muster against humanity’s conscience and consciousness is gargantuan. There isn’t a corner of Western life that isn’t continuously scanned, monitored, and cleansed of any expression of sympathy for Palestinians, or - god forbid - any act of humanizing the suffering masses of Rafah and Beit Lahia, Jabalia and Al-Shati, Deir al Balah Shuja'iyya, and other villages, town, neighborhoods and refugee camps in the Gaza Strip.
Western Social media corporations censor support for Palestine and Western media does not cover pro-Palestine protests, and when it does, it is only to describe them as antisemitic and a menace to public safety. A full-blown apparatus, with billions and trillions in budgets and assets, operates ceaselessly to make Palestine hated and forgotten.
But, for all their money and power, they can’t accomplish their devilish take. They cannot control humanity’s conversation, its heart, and very soul. The flags hang. The crowds gather. The hymns and chants resound. The protests march furiously, continuously.
They must be awfully upset, the little wankers, in vain throwing around billions from high risers, secret clubs, and government offices.
Why do they fail so miserably? What do the people get about Palestine, and won’t relinquish?
A call to action like no other
Everything I say here you already know, consciously or intuitively. Still, I will repeat some of it, to make a small and decidedly incomplete inventory of the callings embodied in the Palestinian cause.
Take, for example, the human vs machine front. Remember that episode of Black Mirror from a few years ago, where robodogs chase a woman to her post-apocalyptic death? Or James Cameron’s Terminator, with Arnold Schwarzenegger as a humanoid assassin sent from the future to first murder the potential rebel leader of humanity’s last survivors, and then to save him? Or The Matrix? Well, in a bizarre twist of faith, Palestine is Zion from The Matrix, and Israel’s AI murder arsenal is precisely the machines seeking to eliminate the final traces of humanity in existence.
Israel is the hi-tech: the big data, the cloud, and AI; Palestine is the family olive tree that has passed from one generation to another for hundreds of years, with its DNA probably mingled with that of the people who have lovingly cultivated and harvested it, grandparents, children and grandchildren, and all over again.
Israel is the quadcopter with its machine guns and cutting-edge photography equipment; Palestine is the two brothers dying in each others’ arms, barefoot and pure-hearted, and sacred as life was on the first day it appeared on earth.
Israel is the stealth pilot with his million-dollar helmet; Palestine is the makeshift rescue teams of anonymous people who risk their lives, or whatever remains of them, to save a stranger. Do you see it? Do you hear it? Do you understand?
If Israel is allowed to win, humanity may never have another chance. We will all be chased by robodogs and quadcopters and AI cameras for the rest of our lives, and our children will not even hear of autonomy unless spoken of in the context of machines.
I won’t bother you with white European colonialism: every cell of our bodies knows it by heart by now. But take capitalism - do we get how much the genocide is rich vs poor? The rich devouring the poor? The rich murdering poor children and their parents to steal their land and resources? Because this is a big part of it (not instead, but in addition to the other motives and explanations).
Israel is the hedge funds, boardrooms, banking and investment institutions, and billionaire elites. Palestine is the peasants and the simple tradespeople, the teachers and small merchants, the shepherds, the grandfathers and grandmothers who own very little but are loved, respected, and admired by their children and grandchildren.
Israel is the real estate; Palestine is the ancestral piece of land that can never be commodified and holds the spirit and honor of a family and a community.
Israel will have a GDP per capita of $53,110.95 in 2024, and Palestine’s was expected to be $3,157 this year, but that’s before the genocide wiped out a third of Palestinians’ wealth, if that’s the right word to call it.
A country that has a GDP per capita 20 times that of its neighbor, and is backed by the world’s richest country and an endless array of billionaires and tycoons, cannot stop stealing from its poor neighbor, and cannot stop destroying the little livelihood and success its neighbor has. It cannot stop burning its neighbor’s olive trees, killing and stealing its sheep and cattle, taking over water sources, and gobbling up more and more of the tiny stretch of land its neighbor still owns after decades of incessant armed robbery.
Can it be any clearer what worlds clash here?
The rich steal from the poor; mock and humiliate the poor, and make their humble native plots and houses into lucrative, prestigious fake-pastoral real estate, always avaricious and armed to the teeth with the best and latest in weaponry, a gift from the biggest murderers of Indigenous life in history.
And they do all that and insist they are the victims, and Western media and politicians echo them: you are the victim, it’s just terrible what’s been done to you.
Humanity gets it
People are not stupid. They are smart. They get it. If they have but one grain of decency, one ounce of curiosity, they get it, making a mockery of a huge apparatus of lies and deceit. They get all of it.
They get the danger the AI apartheid machine represents for them the very idea of humanity, and how vile and vicious it must be for all the helpless innocent people it mercilessly brutalizes and slays day and night. They get the atrocious imbalance in power and connections, wealth, and most of all, justice and authenticity. They freaking get it. Everywhere they get it.
Cops beat them up, and they get it. Faux moderators curtail and censor their speech, and they get it. Bought and paid for politicians lie to them unflinchingly, and they get it. The media makes up absurd fabrications to dehumanize good people and to let their extermination go unnoticed, and they get it. Financial exploiters and fraudsters work with weapons manufacturers, crazy fascists, and cynical, solipsistic, sycophantic cultural elites to conspire for war, theft, and bloodshed, and they get it.
Everything they ever knew they discover to be a lie, and they get it. The people really do.
A cloud of computerized murder, subjugation, and greed gathers on their horizon, hurling shameless fraudulent accusations at them, and they look left and right and see and hear Free Palestine and they get it. Every day they get it more, and every day more get it.
The architects of the robotic, avaricious theft and murder know the people get it, and they panic: a free Palestine, the very longing for a free Palestine, threatens to derail their entire technologically advanced slaughterhouse plan. They know they cannot stop it - no force on earth can stop a crowd galvanized, electrified, by unshakable morality and justice- but they cannot act any differently: they are too evil and too frozen in time to change.
They will be defeated. The US and Israel will be defeated. And Palestine will be free and will continue to live in humanity’s minds and hearts as an inspiration and a lesson - a grand, painful, memorable, sweet lesson - that the people can triumph over the bankers, the professional deceivers, and the robodogs.
Free Palestine will be a triumph for all of humanity, and all of history. And people get it.
Beautiful
I agree. Palestine is the real deal. And Gazans and Palestinians living in the West Bank (and suffering from deep sadness in the diaspora like my husband) deserve our respect, admiration, and devotion to their cause.
I accept that we are in the midst of collapse. I have been what is called “collapse accepting” for several years. Somehow that makes it easier to go on. As Dougald Hines has said: We are already living in collapse. It’s just unevenly distributed. (Really my friends the stock market doesn’t matter.)
I also love science fiction literature and films. There are so many depictions in sci fi of IDF-type atrocities. Dune comes to mind. We all know who the Israelis are in Dune, for example. And we know who the Palestinians are in Star Trek deep space nine (bajorans) and we know who the Israelis are: the borg. And we know exactly who Zendaya is: (Bisan). And we know who are the real heroes in The Expanse: clue = Asteroids.
